SMA Sunny Island X now available in Nepal

Peak Power Solar now supplies the Sunny Island X, SMA’s next-generation battery inverter, as an authorized SMA distributor in Nepal.

The Sunny Island X is a high-voltage, transformerless battery inverter available in two power classes — the SI30-20 (30 kW) and SI50-20 (50 kW) — both built as three-phase devices. It’s designed to work equally well in fully off-grid systems and in on-grid installations where it supports backup power and smarter energy management.

A few things stand out about this generation of the product. Its modular design lets a system’s AC power and battery capacity be sized independently, and an integrated DC-to-DC converter makes it compatible with a wide range of battery chemistries and voltages rather than locking installers into one battery brand. Multiple units can be paralleled — up to 11 devices in an on-grid system without extra hardware, and up to 120 in an off-grid system when combined with SMA’s Hybrid Controller — so the same product scales from a single building to a much larger multi-inverter installation. It’s also rated to deliver full power at ambient temperatures up to 45°C, which matters for the kind of un-airconditioned plant rooms common across Nepal.

Like the rest of the Sunny Island range, it’s designed and manufactured in Germany and monitored through SMA’s Sunny Portal / ennexOS platform, so system owners and installers get the same visibility into energy flows they’d expect from any other SMA product.

For system designers, the practical takeaway is that the Sunny Island X opens up higher-voltage, higher-power battery backup and off-grid designs — think institutional buildings, multi-cluster microgrids, and larger commercial sites — without moving away from SMA’s existing inverter and monitoring ecosystem.
